xAI's New Bundle Puts Grok and Cursor in One Usage Pool. It Never Says How Big the Pool Is.

News by OneHuman

xAI's X Subscription bundles Grok, Cursor and X Premium from $8 to $200. One shared usage pool, size unpublished; Claude and GPT in Cursor cost extra.

Published: October 15, 2026 Impact: High. Affects new Grok, Cursor and X Premium buyers now, and existing subscribers if "nothing changes" changes.

On October 12, xAI (now SpaceXSI) introduced The X Subscription, "which brings together Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor, and X Premium in one plan." It runs from $8 to $200 a month and is "available to new customers starting today." Grok chat, images, voice and Cursor coding now draw on one shared pool, and xAI publishes that pool only as multiples of a base size it does not state.

What Happened (This Week)

The tiers, per xAI's announcement: Free at $0 (limited), Plus at $8 (base usage), Premium at $30 (4x Plus), Super at $100 (15x Plus), Ultra at $200 (50x Plus). Premium is described as "The benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+, previously $90/month combined."

The paid plans "include a generous pool of Grok model usage shared across Grok and Cursor." The pricing page adds that the pool "covers Chat, Imagine, Voice, and Bot," and that the allowance "refreshes weekly." Top-ups are sold when it runs out.

Third-party models in Cursor are "still available in Cursor on Premium and above. Usage is billed separately at API list prices, through top-ups." On Plus, Cursor's pricing page notes "*Only Grok models are available on this plan."

What This Means

Two numbers are missing. xAI's pricing page and announcement give no size for the Plus pool, only "Basic," then 4x, 15x and 50x. A multiple of an unstated amount cannot be compared with anything, including the plan you pay for today.

The Cursor change is the sharper one. A Wayback capture of cursor.com/pricing from October 10 shows Pro at $20 with "Access to frontier models," and an FAQ saying "Every plan includes a set amount of model usage." Under the new plans, included usage covers xAI's own models. Claude and GPT in Cursor are pay-as-you-go. A developer who used Cursor with Claude now buys a bundle whose pool does not cover the models they chose.

Cursor's own legacy-plans page maps Pro at $20 to Premium at $30 and Pro+ at $60 to Super at $100 as the comparable plan, "closest tier, not an identical one." Cursor's usage docs say legacy Pro, Pro+ and Ultra include two monthly pools, "Cursor Models" and "Other Models: Third-party models," while on The X Subscription "Third-party models aren't included." A Cursor Pro user's nearest new plan costs $10 more and drops the third-party pool.

xAI's own summary, that "each comparable new tier provides more usage-per-dollar than the plan it replaces," cannot be checked without the pool size. xAI's June SuperGrok throttling also turned on unpublished caps.

Fair credit. Premium at $30 bundles three products, and xAI attributes a combined $90 to the old versions. One caveat: X's own help page listed "SuperGrok access" among Premium+ benefits as of October 3, so the $90 appears to count SuperGrok twice. Teams seats are priced per seat at the individual rates, "lower per seat than older Cursor Teams" with "3x more coding usage," according to xAI. On October 10, xAI's pricing page sold SuperGrok at $30 and SuperGrok Plus at $100; the new Premium ($30) and Super ($100) keep those prices and add Cursor and X Premium features.

Consumer Protection Q&A

Q: Is my current Grok or Cursor plan changing? A: xAI says no: "Nothing changes for existing SuperGrok, Cursor, or X Premium subscribers. You can keep your current plan, price, and features or move to The X Subscription."

Q: How much usage does Plus include? A: xAI does not publish it on its pricing page, in the announcement, or in the usage docs its pricing page links to. The page says only "Basic."

Q: Does coding now cost me chat and image usage? A: Yes. Every tier "includes a pool of AI usage shared across Grok and Cursor," and the pool refreshes weekly.

Q: Can I still use Claude or GPT in Cursor? A: On Premium and above, billed at API list price through top-ups. Not on Plus.

Q: Do top-ups expire? A: Cursor's usage docs say prepaid top-up credit stays available until used or until it expires, currently 365 days after purchase.

Q: Does the Grok API come with it? A: Access is included but billed separately, outside the pool.

What Happens Next

  • 30 days: Does xAI publish the Plus pool in a unit anyone can compare, and does "nothing changes" hold for existing subscribers?
  • 90 days: Do existing Cursor Pro and SuperGrok plans stay available, or do the "limited-time offers" become the only path?

What to Do Next

  • Switching is permanent. Cursor says moving to The X Subscription is "optional and permanent," so a Cursor Pro user who switches cannot go back to a plan with a third-party model pool.
  • If you use Cursor mainly with Claude or GPT models, price your API top-ups before you switch.
  • If you hold a current plan, check it in your billing settings before accepting a limited-time switch offer.
  • If you generate Grok images or video, remember that coding now draws on the same weekly pool.

Bottom Line

What's real: one bundle, one weekly pool, third-party models billed at list price. What to watch: the unstated Plus pool size, and whether existing plans stay untouched. What's next: check the updated Grok column on the Compare Page before you pick a tier.
